Bronze Teaching Buddha Statue

This elegant Bronze Teaching Buddha Statue depicts the Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, in seated meditation seated atop a lotus throne. With his right hand (raised), he performs the Abhaya Mudra, and the Varada Mudra with his left.

Known as the mudra of fearlessness, the abhayamudrā gesture signifies reassurance and protection. The varadamudrā, on the other hand, is a gesture of charity and compassion. The combination of these two mudras is a common image in Buddhist art, commonly interpreted as Buddha granting the fearlessness required of one along the path of enlightenment.

In Japan, this pairing of mudras is known as Yogan Semui-in.
