Imam Bukhari, born on the 13th of Shawwal 194 AH in Bukhara, had a strong desire to learn from a young age. He sought guidance from Bukhara's finest Hadith scholars, such as Imam Muhammad bin Salam Bakeeni, Imam Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Misri, and Imam Muhammad bin Yusuf Bakeeni. During this period, he also read extensively the works of Imam Abdullah bin Mubarak and Imam Wakee bin Jarrah, getting a thorough understanding of the Ahl al-Ra'i (scholars of legal opinion). Imam Bukhari traveled through the Hijaz, Basra, Baghdad, Sham, Egypt, Khorasan, Merv, Balkh, and Herat in search of Hadith knowledge. His ability to memorize and preserve Hadith earned him a great reputation.
More than a thousand of his instructors and intellectuals sought blessings from Imam Bukhari. Among those who graced his gatherings were eminent scholars of the day. His followers totaled in the hundreds of thousands. The number of people who heard Sahih Bukhari from him was close to 90,000. His most important work is 'Sahih Bukhari,' which is largely regarded by Islamic scholars as the most authentic Hadith collection after the Quran. There is no other work of comparable prominence in the science of Hadith.
